Global Health Engagement – Team China Chia Tai Update #1
Hello and Ni-Hao from Jilin City, China
After 18 hours of traveling, we arrived safely in Jilin City, China. The wonderful staff at Chia Tai International Hospital warmly greeted us at the airport with signs and banners to welcome us to their beautiful country. When we first reached the hospital, Ms. Jin Shu, the president of Chia Tai International Hospital, and CBU’s very own Dr. Chuck Sands, greeted us. After dropping off our stuff in the living quarters, we had our first lunch with REAL Chinese food. We all agree it was one of the best meals we have ever had!! Our friends Woody, Mina, Judy, and Jonathan (who is from England) then took us around the mall next to the hospital and we were able to see the “Walmart” of China; they sell live turtles, frogs, and fish there! We then went to a nice dinner with the staff, Dr. Sands and Jin Shu, where we played several games to get to know each other. A much needed good night’s sleep followed dinner.
Yesterday, we went to Bo Hua hospital, which is the first hospital Jin Shu started. It was wonderful to see where everything began and the heart the staff has in caring for their city. After lunch, Dr. Boyer and Dr. Sands worked with the physicians in teaching them how to properly conduct a maximal exercise test for their patients and the importance of testing. Today the team will begin their internships where they will get to shadow and work with the physicians in cardiology, rehabilitation, and internal medicine this week.
We are so grateful to the Father for the opportunity to be here in Jilin. The people here are so warm and welcoming. Pray that we would continue to be the “aroma of Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:15) to the incredible people of Jilin.
Zai-Jian!
