Ted’s Tips: Getting the right books

by Ted Murcray

It’s the beginning of the semester, and we are getting our classes ready for students on Blackboard. One of the big questions students always have is, Which books are required for the course?

If you often receive that question in email or during class, you may want to help your students get to the right books on the front end.

The CBU bookstore provides a portal for students to find the correct books for each class. As long as you submitted your book orders to the Campus Store on time, you can easily refer students to this handy portal to find out about their books – not just for your class, but for all of their classes!

The portal is located by clicking on this link.

You can make this available to students in the Syllabus or Getting Started Section of your Blackboard course. Simply follow these directions:

  1. Go to the section in your Blackboard course where you want to post the link.
  2. Hover your cursor over “Build Content” to show the drop down menu (or click on the chevron)
  3. Select “Web Link”
  4. Copy and paste the URL from the portal into Blackboard.
  5. You may want to include an explanatory comment helping students know that they follow the link and scroll to the bottom to enter their course information.
