Thanks for volunteering to bring food to a Tribe meeting!
The rule for what to bring is somewhere between Wal-Mart and Wall Street. Seriously, we want people to feel comfortable bringing almost anything. Make sure you show gratitude to the people who signed up and brought food no matter what they brought. Encourage people to bring food that is easy to eat and easy to clean up after (popcorn is great for college students on a budget). Don’t let food become a competition by comparing weeks (food was an issue for the early church, let’s not repeat that).
Have I brought enough? Make sure that you bring enough for everyone to have a little. Making a dozen cookies for a Tribe of 25 people might not work. Ask your host how much of something you should bring.
Could it be gross to some people? Maybe you love anchovies out of a can, but some people might not. This is not the place to help people develop broader pallets.
Is it easy to eat? Not easy like Jello is easy because you barely have to chew it, but easy as in do you need plates, bowls, does it have to be heated, etc. Finger foods are always better for Tribes so the host doesn’t have to spend a lot of time cleaning up after you. If you do want to bring something that requires more prep and utensils consider bringing plasticware or checking with the host to see if they are okay with what you might bring.
Again, thanks for serving your Tribe by bringing food! It seems simple but will create a comfortable environment where people will be open and honest about what they need to do to take the next step in their spiritual journeys.
