CBU Design Gallery
Every year in April the seniors enrolled in the Graphic Design program finish their education with one final senior show. Hosted at the CBU Gallery in downtown Riverside, the night is full of excited designers and stunning visual art works mounted on every wall. During my time at CBU, I have become friends with quite a number of graphic designers, which is surprising considering our fields are polar opposites. Regardless, I wanted to support my friends and decided to check it out.
And this year’s senior show was the best one yet. Located right off of University Avenue and Main Street, the gallery drew in crowds of CBU students and parents all through the evening. The artistic white walls and ambient lighting created a professional environment, which felt more like an art gallery than a graphic design student exhibit. The works ranged from model photo shoots to industry logo rebranding to humorous PSA posters about curse words. The seniors dressed elegantly and stood by their works as they laughed with friends and passed out personally designed business cards. Since their major literally teaches them how to design the best business cards, I wasn’t surprised to find that my Vista Print template version was not as impressive. Luckily for me, I now know plenty of designers who could help me out with that.
It is great that CBU offers this opportunity for students to display their work publically in a prominent area in Riverside. The gallery is free, and my parents even drove out to enjoy the night. The second show is on April 16th. I hope you can enjoy it, too.
