One thing that I have been looking forward to since the beginning of the year was Midnight Madness. I had been told it is one of the highlights of first semester. It most certainly was!

Midnight Madness consisted of the pre-party and then the Madness itself. The pre-party was a way to get us all hyped up with loud music, dancing and glow sticks! Standing in the crowd, you could see hundreds of glow sticks, in the air, shaking to the beat of the music as the light bounced off of all of our white CBU Crazies shirts.

                                

The pre-party finished and then it was time to start Midnight Madness. Once inside, the bleachers and floor were flooded with Crazies shirts and glow sticks. As the night progressed, more music was played, cheers were chanted, performances were done by the cheer team as well as the Crazies. Then it was time for the real purpose of Midnight Madness, basketball! The players from the women’s and men’s basketball teams were individually introduced. Once out on the court, they held the 3-Point contest and the slam dunk contest. I managed to get a spot on the floor, so I got to see it all!

If Madness ends and your voice isn’t gone and your ears aren’t blown out, you did not do Madness the right way!

Every year the Residence Life office throws a campus-wide Halloween celebration, and this year I got to be a part of it. The theme was Storybook Adventure, which incorporated a variety of classic Disney cartoons and movies. Each living area staff represented a specific movie and dressed up in their best Disney character costume. The main attraction of the night is the hayride, which drives students around campus, stopping at specific scenes acted out by the  RA staffs. The end scene is at Brisco’s lawn, where tables full of candy, popcorn and pretzels awaited. Sticking with the theme, we even created a Main Street look with Disney princes and princesses walking around. This is where I worked most of the night.

No, I wasn’t a princess, but I was a Mary Poppins chimney sweep. Coincidentally, I was Bert last year as well, which meant I had more experience as the character. My entire staff wore black suspenders, white shirts, and rubbed charcoal all over our faces and arms. We looked really good, and then three times during the night we performed the Step in Time dance from the movie. We had practiced stepping in time all week, and I was ready to finally show off my moves. I had forgotten how much I like to dance. This was an exciting routine, too, with jazz squares and arm linking. Couldn’t have been asked for a better job.

The rest of the night we served food, chatted with other students, and took their pictures with Mickey and Minnie. Enjoying the lights and music made the night special, but we still wanted to the see the other staffs on the hayride. At the end of the night, we all loaded onto the last truck and cruised through each station. There was Peter Pan, Tarzan, Hercules, Mulan and so much more. Each staff looked great with dancing and costumes and acting, and after each performance, they all chased the truck and celebrated the end of a successful Halloween night.
